A quarta edição da Handmade Music Porto terá lugar já no próximo sábado, dia 27 de Março, na Digitópia: uma festa que junta um mostra&conta a uma jam session com instrumentos únicos. De hardware a software feito em casa até circuit bending, kits personalizados ou instrumentos acústicos originais, todos estão convidados a aparecer na Casa da Música pelas 21h30 para montagem de instrumentos. Estarão disponíveis algumas mesas e tomadas, contudo os canais de amplificação serão muito limitados, pelo que será melhor vir prevenido. Pelas 22h abrimos o evento ao público geral – a entrada é livre e recomenda-se -, ocupando a Digitópia e a zona do bar do Foyer Sul. Contamos convosco!

The fourth Handmade Music Porto, a party + show&tell + jam session with unique instruments, will take place at Digitópia next saturday, March 27th. From handmade hardware or software all the way to circuit bending, customized kits or original acoustic instruments, everyone is welcome at Casa da Música around 9:30pm for assembling the instruments. We’ll provide some tables and power sockets, but only a few channels for amplification, so it is advisable not to rely on them. At 10pm we’ll open the doors – admission is free and we’ll have a bar! We’ll have two very special guests: Rolf Gehlhaar and Luís Girão, who will bring some of the instruments made for the “instruments 4 everyone” project, part of the Ao Alcance de Todos festival in 2009 and 2010, starting this week.

· Agoston Nagy, for the “Attractormusic” patch (PD), who will receive a custom made Salad Bowl Midi Controller!

In addition, the jury decided to attribute two honorable mentions:

· Eli DuPuis Pechman, for the “lace~” patch (Max/MSP)

· Martijn Verhallen, for the “FetchFMsv0.2” patch (Max/MSP)

Rui Pereira (rux) é um designer de interacção, investigador, hacker.
O seu trabalho é extremamente influenciado pela natureza do media e seus erros, percepção inter-sensorial e performance media. Live visual performer desde 2000, rux participou em vários festivais e eventos internacionais e descontente com os interfaces normalmente usados começou a desenvolver as suas próprias ferramentas hardware e software para live-visuals. Loop-r (2003) e looop-r (2007) sao dois protótipos fruto da investigação iniciada em 2003 e reconhecida em diversas conferencias de interacção humano-computador e festivais (FILE 2006 – (Sao Paulo), NIME 2007 (US), VBRooklyn (NY), ACE 2008 (Japao). A sua paixão por interfaces, expressividade dos media, mas também, a incapacidade para criar musica levaram-no a criar interfaces para pessoas que não sabem assobiar; para aqueles que não sabem tocar um instrumento mas querem ser superStars (TuIST); híbridos mecânicos entre caixas de ritmo e bicicletas, robots que comunicam através de video-clips (IEM) e parasitas feitos de código que se alimentam de pele humana.
Rui Pereira é mestre em Interactive Telecommunications Program pela NYU-Tisch School of the Arts e continua a gostar de brincar com a tecnologia e as pessoas.

Rui Pereira (“rux”) is an interaction-media-artist-researcher-creative-hacker boy from Portugal.
His works range from media errors to media control and interfaces, exploring cross-modal perception and the creation of live visuals, interaction design and other electronic and digital absurdities. Rux has performed live visuals since 2000 in Europe and the United States under various id’s and started developing his own homemade interfaces: “Loop-R” (2004) and “looop-r” (2007). His devices, installations, algorithmic paintings and performances have been shown in international conferences and festivals such as ACE’08 (Japan), FILE (Sao Paulo), NIME (New York), vBrooklyn and other digital arts events. His passion (and inability) for music have made him create instruments for people who can’t whistle, human powered sequencers made out of bicycles and alternative scoring systems side-by-side with interactive installations, multi-screen projections, parasites made of code and Musical Instruments that will transform you in an instantaneous SuperStar (aka TuISt)!
Rux has graduated from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU, but he keeps studying and playing with technology and people.

Answering the call to spread the Handmade Music parties around the world, Digitópia will host a series of parties combining a show&tell and a jam session with unique instruments. From handmade hardware or software all the way to circuit bending, customized kits or original acoustic instruments, everyone is welcome at Casa da Música around 9:30pm for assembling the instruments. We’ll provide some tables and power sockets, but only a few channels for amplification, so it is advisable not to rely on them. At 10pm we’ll open the doors – admission is free and we’ll have a bar! The first event will take place on July 21st, last night of the SMC Summer School and the night before SMC 2009. See you there!
