The first seminar “Software Bending” is going to be held next weekend! It will be given by Ángel Faraldo and Rui Penha and it will be based on Pure Data (pd).

A Digitópia vai marcar presença no grandeC, amanhã (Sexta-Feira) no Pavilhão Atlântico, na Sala Tejo. O grandeC é um evento dedicado à criatividade nas escolas!

No Future Places, a Digitópia vai dinamizar o dia e a noite de 15 de Outubro, juntamente com outros eventos do Festival.
Tragam os vossos sons da cidade numa pen, cd ou leitor de mp3 para participarem num concerto à volta do PORTOphone.O PORTOphone é uma aplicação desenvolvida na Digitópia baseada num desenho do Porto e nos seus sons. Uma mesa multitouch, também desenvolvida na Digitópia, irá alojar o PORTOphone promovendo uma interacção com vários utilizadores.

Call for sounds

Digitópia convokes people to send sounds related to Porto city and its industrial environments to be used by the composer Luís Tinoco to compose a piece commissioned by Casa da Música. This piece will be premiered in September 2011.

Rules:

1. There are no restrictions according to age or nationality

2. The aim of this call is to collect a wide range of sounds in order to be used in the piece composed by Luis Tinoco but also to be part of Digitópia’s library of sounds at www.freesound.org

3. Luís Tinoco is allowed to change in any way the original sound and also make use of it in the composition and performance of his music

4. All the original recorded sounds will become part of Digitópia for free public use

5. The minimum duration is 5 seconds and the maximum is 1 minute

6. File format accepted are .wav, .aiff or mp3

7. The sounds should be sent via internet only to digitopiadigitopia@gmail.com along with a text file (.txt, .doc, .rtf, .pdf) containing: short biography, location and hour of the recordings and contacts. EVERYTHING should be in a single ZIP file named after the location of the recording.

8. The deadline for submission is 28 of February 23:59. No more sound will be accepted.

Starting from September, Digitópia has new members in the team. João Damas, João Menezes, Óscar Rodrigues, Mário Mendes and Miguel Urbano. Curating Digitópia will be Filipe Lopes! Rui Penha will stay connected but in different ways.

A quarta edição da Handmade Music Porto terá lugar já no próximo sábado, dia 27 de Março, na Digitópia: uma festa que junta um mostra&conta a uma jam session com instrumentos únicos. De hardware a software feito em casa até circuit bending, kits personalizados ou instrumentos acústicos originais, todos estão convidados a aparecer na Casa da Música pelas 21h30 para montagem de instrumentos. Estarão disponíveis algumas mesas e tomadas, contudo os canais de amplificação serão muito limitados, pelo que será melhor vir prevenido. Pelas 22h abrimos o evento ao público geral – a entrada é livre e recomenda-se -, ocupando a Digitópia e a zona do bar do Foyer Sul. Contamos convosco!

Teremos dois convidados muito especiais: Rolf Gehlhaar e Luís Girão, que trarão alguns dos instrumentos criados para o projecto “instruments 4 everyone”, no âmbito do Festival Ao Alcance de Todos, edições de 2009 e 2010, que agora começa.

The fourth Handmade Music Porto, a party + show&tell + jam session with unique instruments, will take place at Digitópia next saturday, March 27th. From handmade hardware or software all the way to circuit bending, customized kits or original acoustic instruments, everyone is welcome at Casa da Música around 9:30pm for assembling the instruments. We’ll provide some tables and power sockets, but only a few channels for amplification, so it is advisable not to rely on them. At 10pm we’ll open the doors – admission is free and we’ll have a bar! See you there!

We’ll have two very special guests: Rolf Gehlhaar and Luís Girão, who will bring some of the instruments made for the “instruments 4 everyone” project, part of the Ao Alcance de Todos festival in 2009 and 2010, starting this week.

The jury (Pedro Rebelo, Paulo Maria Rodrigues and Rui Penha) has decided to give the prize of the 1st Digitópia Patches Competition to:

· Agoston Nagy, for the “Attractormusic” patch (PD), who will receive a custom made Salad Bowl Midi Controller!

In addition, the jury decided to attribute two honorable mentions:

· Eli DuPuis Pechman, for the “lace~” patch (Max/MSP)

· Martijn Verhallen, for the “FetchFMsv0.2” patch (Max/MSP)
